Questions about the master's degree

What job prospects do I have after completing my studies?

Completing your studies will open many doors: you can work in Church ministry, in education or in international organizations. There are also opportunities in intercultural cooperation, in journalism and in the social sector. The course of studies provides you with a solid foundation to take on responsibility in various contexts.

How can I apply for scholarships?

To receive for scholarships, such as the “Deutschland scholarship” or a DAAD scholarship, you apply via the university. The selection criteria usually include exceptional results in your studies and social involvement. Inform yourself in advance about deadlines and requirements through student counseling.

Is there support for study and exam related stress?

The university offers counseling and support. Additionally, counselors and instructors will help you to stay on top of things and reduce stress.

How many exams do I have to take each semester?

Usually, there can be as many as three exams a semester that are fairly distributed throughout the exam period. An exam schedule will be published well before the exams take place.

How do I finance my studies?

Besides BAföG, it is possible to apply for scholarships such as the "Deutschland scholarship” or DAAD scholarships. The KHKT offers extensive support in this regard.

Can I complete a semester abroad?

Yes, the KHKT strongly supports study abroad, especially in the third year of studies. With the help of learning agreements we ensure that your achievements abroad count toward your studies. We cooperate with various universities globally. You can find more information under “International.”

Which modules await me in my course of studies?

You will study modules in topics such as dialogue, interculturality and digitalization. Moreover, courses in mission theology, religious studies and ethnology will sharpen your profile at the KHKT.

When does the semester begin and how long does it last?

The university courses in the winter semester usually begin at the start of October and end in February. The university courses in the summer semester usually begin at the start of April and go until the end of July. The months during the term break can be used for internships.

Which admissions requirements must I fulfill?

You will need an Abitur (high school diploma) or similar qualification. Other prerequisites that are recognized by the ministry responsible for education are acceptable. The matriculation code provides the exact details.

How do I apply for the course of studies?

You apply directly through the Cologne University for Catholic Theology. We then invite you to a digital or in-person intake interview. Documents need not be submitted at that time.
