The Cologne University of Catholic Theology (KHKT) is a state-recognised ecclesiastical university sponsored by the Cologne University of Catholic Theology (KHKT) gGmbH, whose sole shareholder is the KHKT Foundation. The KHKT fulfils the internal scholarly, social and ecclesiastical functions of theology as a science. Its principles and methods are based on the interdisciplinary diversity of theology and it promotes innovative, independent and creative learning and teaching, among other things through the targeted promotion of international exchange in research, teaching and study. The KHKT is fundamentally based on dialogue between theology and the church with science, politics, society and culture. This requires close cooperation withother scholarly disciplines and practice.
The following professorship is to be filled at the university on 1 October 2026:
Liturgical Studies
Remuneration is in line with W 2 or W 3 (depending onqualifications) in an employment relationship subject to social insurance contributions. We are looking for a candidate with high academic qualifications (doctorate in Catholic theology; relevant teaching qualification [habilitation or equivalent]; outstanding subject-specific publications; experience in interdisciplinary work; experience in acquiring research funding), university teachingskills and, if possible, international experience, who can comprehensively represent the subject in research and teaching. The KHKT pursues a concept of intensive student support and therefore requires a high level of presence from its teaching staff at the university. We also expect the successful candidate to be willing to participate in the university's self-administration and to take the initiative in contributing to the further development of the KHKT and its interdisciplinary theological profile, as well as to the international networking of the university. The future holder of the position should be able to teach and communicate in both German and English. The KHKT promotes equality and is committed to the compatibility of family and career.
