Licentiate

The degree program in Catholic Theology is a six-semester postgraduate course that concludes with the academic degree of a licentiate in theology. The aim of the degree program is to enable students to deepen the individual sub-disciplines of Catholic theology in order to acquire specific experience in scientific research. The licentiate qualifies students to take up doctoral studies and to teach in seminaries or comparable institutions.

Summary of language regulations (S0)

In principle, language skills (Latin, Hebrew, Greek) must be proven by the second semester.

‍

The following special cases should be considered:
- Latin: Proof by the end of the fourth semester...
  - during repeat tests.
  - in individual cases upon written request to the examination committee.
- Greek: Proof by the end of the sixth semester...
  - when all three languages need to be learned.
  - during repeat tests.
  - in individual cases upon written request to the examination committee.
- Hebrew: Proof by the end of the sixth semester...
  - when all three languages need to be learned.
  - during repeat tests.
  - in individual cases upon written request to the examination committee.

Anyone who has to learn all three languages can be exempted from the university's internal Hebraicum upon written request from the Rector. However, the first Hebrew course must be attended and passed.
